Digital Transformation Journey - Role of User Experience Design

Updated: Nov 2, 2020

Digital transformation is the process of using digital technologies to create new — or modify existing — business processes, culture, and customer experiences to meet changing business and market requirements. It is a reimagining of business.

Most business that attempt a digital transformation fail without an initial investment in research and design. That’s because they don’t validate risky ideas.

And that’s where User Experience (UX) Design comes in — validating your ideas and mitigating risk. But to be truly successful, you’ll want to invest in UX Design BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER a digital transformation.

What is User Experience Design

User experience (UX) design is the process design teams use to create products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. It’s the process of creating and validating ideas. Start with the process before launching an idea as a product or service into the business ecosystem. Continue to refine ideas through all stages of development and maintenance.

UX Design help to make sure that your ideas are good and that they’re going to work. That’s why UX Design saves you time, money, and pain

A UX Design process typically consists of six phases:

1. Empathize with the users (learning about the audience): Empathy is the foundation of the human-centered design process. It is the ability to fully understand, mirror, then share another person’s expressions, needs, and motivations. In UX, empathy enables us to understand not only our users’ immediate frustrations, but also their hopes, fears, abilities, limitations, reasoning, and goals.

2. Define the problem (identifying the users’ needs): Defining your problem occurs when you unpack and synthesize your empathy findings into compelling insights. By the end of this stage, you should have developed a guiding statement that focuses on specific users, insights, and needs that you uncovered during the empathy stage.

3. Ideate (generating ideas for design): When you ideate, you go far and wide to generate solutions to address discovered challenges.

4. Prototype (turning ideas into concrete examples):Prototypes are ways to demonstrate ideas and to get feedback to build more and more prototypes; they are tools for interaction.

5. Test (evaluating the design):Prior to launching, testing is done by reframing solutions and making them better.

6.Launch: Introduce your idea to markets and get feedback during the launch phase.
